Review
These books give the mythological background to Tolkien's writings, and focused commentary on the tales Tolkien told, his characters, the places they lived, and their world. It's presented in beautiful volumes that are a joy to hold. With many illustrations brightening the pages of the text. The writing strikes a good balance between depth and brevity. It informs without being overwhelming. Recountings of legends is done in a way that gives their tales justice without taking away the desire to read orreread the original. If you have any interest in Tolkien's writings, I highly recommend adding this set to your library!
